Johannes Sebastian Bernard

Pianist Johannes Sebastian Bernard is described by the press as one of the most

compelling and distinctive pianists of his generation.

Born in southern Germany, he began playing the piano at the age of five. By

sixteen, he had already drawn widespread attention for his virtuosic and tonally

rich interpretations of Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3 and Tchaikovsky’s

Piano Concerto No. 1.

He completed his studies in piano, chamber music and song interpretation in

Germany and Switzerland.

A reclusive and introspective artist, Bernard maintains a broad repertoire

spanning from the Baroque to modern works. He is particularly noted for his own

arrangements – including the Liszt Rhapsodies and Rosenthal’s Carnaval de

Vienne – which have earned him enthusiastic acclaim at international piano

festivals in recent years.

Critics have drawn comparisons to Sviatoslav Richter, and his profound Schubert

interpretations are frequently mentioned alongside those of Alfred Brendel and

Claudio Arrau – praised for their depth, sincerity, and lyrical insight.
